These laddoos made specially during Sankranti festival (harvest festival) in India which is celebrated in January every year. The two festive ingredients sesame seeds (til) and jaggery (gur) have special significance on this day. In Maharashtrian households these are exchanged with friends and family members with this expression – ‘Til Gur Ghya ani god god bola‘ which literally means ‘Eat Til and Gur and speak sweet (speak kindly)’ .
The ingredients used , help keep the body warm during wintery days and also helps in boosting the immunity. They also have a longer shelf life.
I love these laddoos (nutriballs) the most , only because these are one of the laddoos which is made without adding any additional fats (ghee ). Three ingredients make this laddoo til (sesame seeds) , gur (jaggery-from sugarcane) and peanuts .
The secret behind making the perfect til ke laddoo is by roasting sesame seeds correctly. I love how my whole house smells when I’am roasting the til . These add the real flavour to the laddoos. Having a good quality jaggery is also very important in making these laddoos delicious.
A sure punch to try out. Here’s my recipe of Til Ke Laddoos which I have called it – Nutriballs from Sesame Seeds
